I have always taken interest on cultural events on different parts of the world. And Azores wasn’t any different. Deeply rooted in to the culture of these tiny Portuguese islands, the locals gather every June to run the streets, escaping bulls.

It has been taken a while to make this post because I, I’m not going to lie, I feel a little controversial about it. I went to the event. I saw the bulls and fighters. I ran. No bull got hurt and they seem to be well taken care of!
I like the idea of events bringing people together and having long rooted traditions but the factor of using animals as entertainment makes me question our entertainment a little. I have attended many times to these events in other countries also and understand the importance for the local people.
